        徐文涛教授的研究领域涉及多学科交叉,包括各种材料、化学在神经仿生电子器件、信息存储器件、场效应晶体管、柔性可穿戴电子等方面的应用。近来的研究主要围绕柔性神经形态电子学领域,从类神经形态纤维材料制备、神经形态器件的新机理研究与性能突破、以及人体感觉与运动神经形态电子设计与开发等三个方面开展了系统性的工作。曾先后入选南开大学百名青年学科带头人、国家级人才、天津市海河英才计划领军人才、天津市杰出青年、国家杰出青年等人才项目。发表高水平论文60篇。其中第一作者和通讯作者50篇,包括Science、 Science Advances、Nature Communications、 6篇 Advanced Materials、 3 篇Advanced  Functional Materials、4篇Nano Energy等国际权威期刊。2项工作入选Science、Nature、Nature Nanotechnology的研究亮点,9项工作入选 Adv. Mater等杂志的封面。申请 PCT 专利、中国和韩国专利20余项,其中3项已获授权,多项成果被媒体广泛报道。应邀在国内外柔性与神经拟态电子领域的顶级学术会议上做了多次邀请报告,并多次作为分会主席主持会议。实现了类神经形态纤维材料的数码可控的制备;首次开发出飞焦级别能耗的人工突触、并创造了器件电压响应灵敏度的世界记录;开发出世界首条人工柔性传入神经。
