Postdoctoral Fellow Recruitment

Laboratory Profile:

The Neuromorphic and Flexible Electronics Laboratory was founded in September 2017. It is supported by the National Talents Program and the Tianjin Haihe Talents Action Plan. Professor Xu Wentao, winner of Tianjin Outstanding Youth Fund and one of the 100 Young Leaders of Nankai University, led the team. Relying on the Institute of Optoelectronic Thin Film Devices and Technology, School of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering, Nankai University, and Tianjin Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Thin Film Devices and Technology, the laboratory focuses on the fields of flexible and neuromorphic electronics. Professor Xu Wentao is engaged in the research of 1) neuromorphic electronic devices, 2) artificial sensory and motor neuron, 3) flexible and wearable electronics, 4) digitally controlled nanowire printing technology, 5) nanomaterials and electronic devices. At present, the laboratory has 2 postdocs, 8 doctoral students, 9 master students and 1 assistant. It has a strong scientific research atmosphere, abundant laboratory facilities, and sufficient research funds.

Laboratory leader: Prof. Xu Wentao

        Professor, doctoral supervisor.

He has been selected as one of the Hundred Young Academic Leaders of Nankai University, national talents, leading talents of Tianjin Haihe Talents Plan, outstanding youth of Tianjin and other talent projects.

He has published 55 high-level papers. Among them, 45 are the first and corresponding authors. The papers include 1 for Science, 1 for Sci Adv, 1 for Nat Commun, 3 for Adv Mater, 3 for Adv Funct Mater, 4 for Nano Energyand 4 for Sci China Mater and Mater Chem Front and other domestic high-level journals. Two of the studies were selected as highlights of Science, Nature and Nature Nanotechnol, and six were selected as covers of Adv Mater and other journals. We have applied for 20 PCT patents, China and South Korea patents, of which 3 have been authorized, and many achievements have been widely reported by the media. He has been invited to give several invited reports at the top academic conferences in the field of flexible and neural mimicry electronics at home and abroad.

Chaired and participated in a number of talent programmes and technology projects, including: Tianjin haihe river "action plan" of person of outstanding ability talents, "national talent project", the tianjin outstanding youth fund projects, hundreds of people to discipline leaders develop plan of nankai university, tianjin project, research and development of key areas of guangdong province plan "class brain smart key technology and system research" (project no. 0338) corpus, class 2 neural devices,

Horizontal technology development project: high precision metal rewiring printing technology development.

In recent years, it mainly focuses on the field of flexible neuromorphic electronics, involving the interdisciplinary fields of materials, physics, electronics, life science, medical engineering and so on.

He has carried out systematic research independently on the design and development of artificial afferent (sensory) and efferent (motor) neurons, the new principle and performance breakthrough of neuromorphic devices, and the preparation of neuromorphic fiber materials.

A series of innovative achievements have been made, mainly reflected in:

  •  1) The first flexible artificial afferent nerve in the world has been developed, which is expected to enable artificial skin and artificial limb to obtain tactile and reflective functions, and bring new ideas for the research of bionic robot.

  • 2) The principle of switchable control of artificial motor nerve was put forward, and the first artificial efferent nerve in the world was successfully developed, which is expected to make the artificial limb more truly follow the instructions of the brain for movement.

  • 3) Systematically carry out research on reducing the power consumption of artificial synapses and improving the sensitivity of voltage response. It is proposed and demonstrated that the high efficiency ion diffusion in the combination of electrolyte and nanomaterial can reduce the power consumption and improve the voltage response sensitivity of the synaptic devices. The synapse with the lowest power consumption and the highest sensitivity has been developed.

  • 4) To systematically study the processing technology and performance control method of digitally controllable nanometer nerve fiber array for new electronic devices. Successfully printed polymer, metal oxide semiconductor, metal conductor and other nanofiber array, the realization of material support. Based on this technology, the artificial synapses with shell core structure nanofibers were prepared, and the energy consumption of the synaptic device was reduced to the level of flycoke for the first time in the world.
